Population: Instructors in Continuing Education

Outcomes: Instructors will be able to implement Keyboarding in basic computer classes

Gap: The participants already know that in the Continuing Education Department, Keyboarding is not offered and many of the learners do not know the keys on the keyboard and instead of typing they peek. I want them to learn how to teach students the proper way to use the keyboard and learn where the keys are. The gap is that many of the students have not used a computer, been out of work for a number of years and those that do use a computer never learned how to use it the proper way. When you have a mixture of students and the majority do not know how to use the keyboard it holds up the class.

Example: Students are assigned an Assessment to be typed in 20 minutes. Those with the knowledge of keyboarding and typing will type it in 10-15 minutes with few errors. The know how to fix their errors and format the document without any help. Those who do not anything about keyboarding will begin peeking; looking for the keys. It takes them 20 minutes or more while the rest of the class is finished and waiting to go on with the next task. If I am going to a different lesson I cannot begin until they finish. Also, lack of keyboarding causes the class to get behind schedule because you are continually waiting for them to finish the Skill Builder and Assessment.
