Mayer’s principle of active processing in the authentic assessment activity will be included by selecting material that is relevant to them learning the keyboard, organize the material and integrate the material in their knowledge of computer keyboarding. The relevant material will be a computer keyboarding software program so that the students will pay attention to the words and images. The kind of product the participants will create to demonstrate their learning using multimedia technology will be typing test.
The type of multimedia presentation to effectively create the key concepts and skills to the participants will be PowerPoint. Dual coding will be included by using animations and illustrations in the PowerPoint presentation with narration to allow people to process the information in the visual channel as it is being presented to the ears to process the information in the auditory channel. Limited capacity in the presentation will be maybe a five question quiz to see what they have learned.
The kind of graphic organizer that is best to give the participants to help facilitate learning in the workshop will be List from SmartAt or Mindmap.
There are not concepts that will require pre-training before the workshop begins. There will be no need for multimedia to engage the learners for pre-training.
The equipment that I will need to conduct the workshop will be a projector, desktops and Internet connections.
The online applications that I may use will be those that offer free typing websites or Mavis Beacon which is installed in certain classrooms on campus.
The participants will collaborate on the project by brainstorming ideas and solutions to typing problems and how to integrate keyboarding in the beginner’s class. They will be grouped to create authentic assessment in the workshop by having a group to type knowing the keyboard and another group not being able to type. This information will be evaluated to include in a solution for the problem.
